Basic Description: The Silky Terrier originated in Australia where it greatly helps control rats and snakes. Developed around the turn of the century in Australia from crossings of native Australian Terriers and imported Yorkshire Terriers, the Silky Terrier encompasses many of the best qualities of both. It was accepted by the AKC on May 1, 1959. The mature Silky is 9 to 10 inches tall and weighs 8 to 10 pounds, proportioned in body according to size, with body coat about 6 inches in length. The coat needs to be brushed for about ten minutes every day to keep it shining and free of mats They are very sturdy and adjust easily to any surroundings or climate. These blue and tan cuties are non-shedding, odorless, non-allergic, affectionate, intelligent, well-muscled and extremely alert, which makes them natural watch dogs A Silky's antics never cease; they are truly "puppies" all of their lives.
